This striking piece features the 15 bezants found on the arms of both the County and Duchy of Cornwall, symbolising wealth and historical legacy. These golden discs are set upon a stylised Bronze Age sword, drawing inspiration from ancient Cornish artefacts discovered in the St Erth hoards—treasures now held in the Royal Cornwall Museum.
The sword design pays homage to Cornwall’s deep-rooted history and mythology, particularly the enduring association between Cornwall and the legendary King Arthur.
Cornwall is steeped in Arthurian lore, with the sea-girt fortress of Tintagel often cited as the birthplace of the once and future king. Some scholars and enthusiasts have speculated that the famous tale of the Sword in the Stone may be a distant echo of an ancient ritual, when swords were cast in stone moulds during the Bronze Age, centuries before Arthur’s time.
